Best Answer:   It has nothing to do with denial. It is more of an excuse to reassure the people around you that you are going to react differently to things, but only for a short time. So for example, I f I had lost my job I might consider these to be out of the ordinary and my angst and stress would be relieved when I had either got another job or come to terms with the loss.

It is also an assertion that we choose not to desire a particular state of being and that we prefer to act and be better. It is an acknowledgment that we can change- not alway sin desirable ways, but in ways that we can recognise as undesirable, that we might improve ourselves.

I think for some people that identification of a transitional stage from one state to another can be seen by them in terms of going back to the "real me". But a few moments of discussion will make them realise that after the "not myself" will not be back but forward to a 'new me'. All experiences are transformative.
